Advanced Blogging

Page history last edited by Fotojournal Staff 2 years, 1 month ago

Advanced blogging doesn't mean complicated or confusing. FotoJournal is designed to make publishing your photos in a blog post as easy as possible, but with a lot of useful extra features. In this article we'll take you through the additional tabs in your Post Editor and show you all the neat stuff you can do.

Saving Posts As Drafts

Saving a post as a draft is a very handy tool. You might not be finished working on it, but don't want to loose your progress. To do this is very simple. Just click on the large, pink "Save as Draft" button at the button of the Post Editor.

Once you've done this, your post will be saved, but not published on your blog. You'll be able to access it later on to keep working on it until you're ready to post!

To access a draft post, click on the "Posts" link on the left side of your screen, and then the "drafts" tab.

From there you will easily be able to edit any draft post. You can also continue to Save As Draft as much as you'd like. There's no rush.

When you're totally done, and ready to display your post on your blog, simply hit "Publish" and you're good to go!

Advanced Features

First, you'll need to click on the "advanced" tab in your Post Editor. You'll then see a screen like this with all sorts of options.

Here are the cool things you can do!

Queuing Posts

With FotoJournal you can easily set a post to be published on your blog at a later date. In the advanced tab, you'll see a Date field and a Time field.

You can either type in the date you'd like to have your post published on, or you can click on the small calendar icon, and a calendar will pop up. Click on your chosen date and you're set!

You may also just click on the "today" link to auto-fill the field with today's date.

To set the time for your post to be published either type it in (in 24 hour time), or click on "now" to auto-fill the field with the current time.

NOTE: Ensure that you're status is set to "Published" for queuing to work.

Changing The Permalink

The permalink is part of the address of your specific blog post. You can change it in the "Permalink" field if you'd like! Generally you can just leave that blank, and we'll automatically create one for you from your blog title.

Allowing Comments

You can turn on or off the ability for your viewers to leave comments on a specific post. If you are creating a page this is often a handy thing to disable, making it appear more like a page, rather than a regular post.

By default this box is always checked, so you only need to do something if you'd like to turn commenting off.

Sticky Posts

Sticky posts are posts that will stay at the very top of your blog at all times. Any new posts will appear underneath them. These are great for information that you'd like your new users to read before continuing on to the rest of your blog.

These are great for small blurbs introducing your blog, announcements of sales, promotions, periods of inactivity, etc.

A sticky post may be disabled at any time simply by unchecking the box, and will then appear in the timeline of your regular blog posts, depending on when you first created it.

Use As Page

This is where you are able to use a post as a page. For a full description of this feature, check out this article.

Comments Tab

The comments tab in your post editor will show you how many comments you have on that specific post. You'll be able to edit them through this tab, without having to sort through all the comments on your whole blog. For more information on managing comments check out this article.

Thumbnail

You can (and should!) choose a thumbnail for your post. Simply click on the tab, and then the "Choose Your Thumbnail" button. Your Photo Library will pop up and you can choose any image as a thumbnail. Generally, you'll want to choose one of the images that is actually in your post so your readers will know what great photos they are about to see!

Your thumbnail will appear in a few places. When someone is searching your blog (through the search bar, your archives, or your tags) they will see a list of your posts along with handy little thumbnails. If your post appears on the myfotojournal.com homepage, it will be shown along with the thumbnail! So make sure to choose one!!
